PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Ark Project is pleased to offer one artist the opportunity to work and collaborate during the Summer (August) 2027 artist residency program. The idea is to enable artists to collaborate and work towards a common goal. The end-product or completion of projects is not required, however, works completed and in progress may be documented and available for inclusion in future exhibition programming.

The vision:

The Ark Project is a quadrennial international artist residency program realized in 2015 with a focus on creation, presentation, and documentation of contemporary art that engages discovery, transformation and innovation. The Ark Project encourages the exploration of non-representational art through multimedia, conceptual, ecological, and interdisciplinary approaches. The vision for the Ark Project is centered around the co-creation process with intention to break open one's artistic practice to a new level and create new work that the artist may not otherwise create outside the residency. Every three years one artist is invited into the collective for an evolving curatorial project.

The mission:

The program mission is to explore the intersection of nature, art, and consciousness through visual art to create structures that allow for an evolution of harmony and connection with the natural world. The Ark is a symbol for hope in a fast changing world in need of connection, collaboration, and a meeting of the mind and spirit with nature. Our intention is to create synergy and community to cultivate growth and symbiosis through art.

The location:

Every four years the Ark Project travels to a new location across the globe.

The 2027 residency program will be hosted in Mount Shasta, California, USA.

The Ark Project is a process-oriented residency that strives to cultivate an environment where artists can craft their experience as they wish; whether that may be through conceptual development, research, or intervention and experimentation, artists have the utmost freedom while in residence at The Ark Project. We work to provide a safe space where all art forms, intellectual and creative pursuits, methods of artistic investigation, and aesthetic inquiry are accepted, nurtured, and celebrated.

Each residency is located in a unique, natural, and energetic environment. The Ark Project encourages artists to draw inspiration from place and soak in the landscape and the synergy between art and the natural world.  The residency program allows artists to enter into an immersive space so that the artistic process can develop and thrive. Beyond our studio walls, the residency aims to provide opportunities for international and artistic exchange.
